In letters and calls to home, she seemed quite candid about conditions there, both the good and the bad, but was also looking forward to being home for Christmas. On July 19th, though Ep 08: Lavena Johnson was just a few days shy of her 20th birthday when her body was found lifeless in a tent on a U.S. military base in Iraq. Her death was quickly ruled a suicide by army investigators, however it didn’t take long for questions to arise. LaVena Johnson (1985-2005), an American soldier, was the first female soldier from Missouri to die in the Iraq War. The Army called it suicide.
